Traditional Cast Iron Teapot – Auspicious Gourd Design
This exquisite teapot features the esteemed design of an auspicious gourd shape, a creation of our sixth generation that is cherished worldwide. Offered by a long-established French tea house, it exemplifies international recognition and admiration.
The design is adorned with six gourds, a number symbolising perfect health in Japanese tradition. Superstitions and symbolic beliefs have long been woven into everyday life, and this piece continues that legacy.
Despite its compact size, this teapot includes a stainless-steel tea strainer, ensuring versatility for brewing your favourite blends. To challenge the conventional belief that iron cannot be integrated into a teapot, the interior remains unenamelled, allowing for the natural infusion of iron into the tea—a unique feature that enhances the experience.
Materials & Craftsmanship
- Body: Cast iron
- Tea Strainer: Stainless steel
- The surface is coated with an anti-rust oxide layer using the traditional kama-yaki technique. However, as it is cast iron, exposure to moisture and humidity may result in natural rust formation.
- Since the interior is unenameled, iron may leach into the tea, binding with tannins and potentially causing slight discolouration—completely harmless to the body.
Compatibility
- Suitable for all stovetops, including induction.
Dimensions
- Width: 16 cm
- Total height: 15 cm
- Height to lid: 9 cm
- Capacity: 0.5L
- Weight: 1kg
Care Instructions
- Use low to medium heat when using on an induction hob.
- Do not use detergent when cleaning.
- Avoid washing with a sponge or scrubber to preserve the integrity of the surface.
- Please note that cooking near the teapot may result in oil stains and discolouration due to splashes.
This handcrafted teapot beautifully merges tradition with function, offering a timeless piece for tea enthusiasts and collectors alike.
