Naniwa Specialty Stone Series – Premium Water Stones for Exceptional Sharpening
The Naniwa Specialty Stone range is an enhanced evolution of the highly regarded Super Stone series. With a newly developed bonding agent—formulated and produced in-house by Naniwa—these sharpening stones deliver superior performance. By precisely matching the bonding compound to each grit level, Naniwa has achieved a level of sharpening efficiency that outperforms many other brands, even when grit ratings are comparable.
These stones are distinctly hard, meaning there’s minimal chance of your knife digging into the surface during use. This hardness also translates to reduced wear, giving the stones an impressively long service life. For best results, we recommend maintaining the surface with a dressing stone from time to time.
Crafted using synthetic resin bonding, these water stones absorb very little water—just a splash is enough to begin sharpening right away, with no need for soaking. Their slow and even wear contributes to a self-renewing effect, keeping the stone clean and effective through many uses.
Choosing the Right Grit Size
Sharpening stones are available in various grit sizes to suit different needs. A lower grit number means a coarser stone, ideal for initial sharpening or repairs, while higher grit numbers yield finer finishes for ultimate edge refinement.
Here’s a general guide:
- Grit 200–600: Ideal for restoring dull or damaged blades
- Grit 800–1000: Perfect for sharpening knives that are already in fair condition
- Grit 2000–3000: Produces a sharper edge than most factory-finished blades
- Grit 5000–12000: Designed for achieving an ultra-fine, razor-sharp edge
Whether you’re maintaining kitchen knives or honing precision tools, the Naniwa Specialty Stone serie
